Fetal Toxins and Eczema – Case Study | Charles Buck, MSc., BSc., BAcC. Fellow RCHM, Fellow BAcC,

At times in my dermatology clinics, parents tell me that their baby developed extensive eczema within days or even hours following birth. This brings to mind the TCM concept of fetal toxins, the idea that neonates need to fully flush away waste materials accumulated during the gestation period, and if this fails, they are left with internal heat and toxicity. In past history, physicians of aristocrats would give the newborn a drop of bear bile in each eye and one in the mouth to encourage meconium release. Today, this is no longer done, however I have found the following formula to be useful, given in a dose of a few milliliters every day using a pipette, for babies between 3 months and 2 years:

Sheng di huang 9g Chi fu ling 9g Niu bang zi 6g  Bai xian pi 6g  Jin yin hua 6g
Bo he 6g Fu ling 6g Huang lian 2g Deng xin cao 2g Gan cao 2g
This formula effectively clears wind-damp-heat from the skin, removes fetal toxins, and treats infantile eczema.
